About HSK Vocabulary Levels

HSK (Hànyǔ Shuǐpíng Kǎoshì) is the standardized Chinese proficiency test. The vocabulary grows with each level: HSK 1 covers 150 essential words for basic greetings, numbers and daily life; HSK 2 adds 150 words for simple conversations; HSK 3 brings the total to 600 words for travel and work topics; HSK 4 reaches 1,200 words for fluent discussions; HSK 5 covers 2,500 words for reading newspapers and watching films; HSK 6 masters 5,000+ words for full professional proficiency.
